Although the iPhone is one of those modern gadgets that people just can’t seem to get enough of, its producers are smart enough to understand that there are still some old gadgets that people just can’t get enough of. Enter the ZX Spectrum emulator for the iPhone.
This emulator does a decent job of mimicking the blocky graphics and crunchy sounds of the old 1982 16K home computer. It even emulates the noises of games loading from a cassette. The ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection comes with six old school games: Frank Bruno’s Boxing, Chuckie Egg, Harrier Attack, Turbo Esprit, Saboteur and Buggy Boy, with more to come in ensuing months.
Of course, the emulation isn’t totally classic. The layout is much more modern, and games are played via an onscreen controller instead of the Spectrum’s keypad. But as far as appearance, sound, and gameplay, including the learning curves, the emulation is true and should provide old school European gaming fans with some mobile fun.
