Civilization for FaceBook

CivilizationThe age-old and well played classic strategy game of Civilization, but long-time MicroProse designer Sid Meiers is coming to FaceBook. Currently in a beta version, this classic is ready to join the ranks of 100s of classic games and classic game spin-offs on the worldwide leader in social networking’s site. The major difference is that this is the genuine game, not a rehash.

With social networking gaming being such a huge part of the modern money market, it is only fitting that classic games take a whack at the action. The version in the works, called Civilization Network, will be FaceBook exclusive and will allow gamers to connect with fans all over the world to play this turn based strategy, just like the original game from the very early nineties. If Civ is successful, will Meiers follow in the footsteps of Zynga and develop more hits for the site? Don’t be surprised to see a FaceBook version of Pirates!

As a side note, the more modern version of the game is still racking up awards. The opening theme from Civilization 4 is actually up for Grammy nomination. Look for more good things from Sid Meiers and read about his social networking game here.

Ohhh.. CIV I was really one of THE games of the 90s. We played it for years until Colonization came out which was slightly worse or maybe over-expected by most of us.
Please bow down to praise Sid Meier now, it’s time to say thanks to those you love, christmas is coming.

Wonderful wonderful Civilization! This game is probably one of my top 10 favorite games ever. Not quite sure about the emulation on FaceBook, don’t think it will be the same as when you fire it up on a classic DOS computer but I guess it’s a good way to introduce the game to new users.
