Gameboy’s Super Smash Bros. de-make

Super Smash Bros.

De-makes are all the thing, as are 8-bit styled indie games that look like they were made for the Atari 2600. Most of them are made to look like old games, but are playable on more modern consoles. They are made available via Wii Ware or through Xbox Live. Few, however, are de-made to be played on old consoles or handhelds.

Enter Super Smash Land, de-made specifically for the Nintendo GameBoy. In this interesting adaptation, gamers can select from four playable characters. Mario and Kirby are the originals, but Link and Pikachu have also been added to the mix, as well as more levels.

The original Super Smash Bros. was released in 1999 for the N64. The game was an action/fighting platformer that featured many of Nintendo’s fabled characters, such as such as those listed above, as well as Samus. It morphed into a mini-franchise, with Super Smash Bros. Melee being released ten years ago for the GameCube and Super Smash Bros. Brawl finding its way to the Wii in 2008.

Super Smash Land is a free download and you can pick up a copy or read more about its concept here.
