The E3 convention for 2011 might actually go down in history as the first such gaming conference where the retro world overshadowed pending releases. While people seemed moderately excited about the WiiU and other Nintendo goodies, the SupaBoy announcement by Hyperkin met great interest. Also raising eyebrows was the large number of retro re-releases by Nintendo.
Rehashes and remakes of games are always popping up, simply proving that sometimes older is better. If an old idea is still selling, making a new one is a waste of resources, and apparently Nintendo plans on re-releasing some of their greatest classic titles.
On deck for rehash are several Mario games, which is a given. Mario Kart, Super Mario, and Luigi’s Mansion 2 are all slated for play on the new 3DS. However, some more eclectic—but equally awesome—titles are also in the works. Look for the hot 1986 platformer Kid Icarus, and Star Fox from SNES circa 1995. Kirby is coming to Wii. Probably the most interesting remake could be Animal Crossing, a pseudo life simulator that was first released to the GameCube at the turn of the century. GameBoy’s best seller, Tetris, is also making a comeback.
Look for these titles and see if the remakes live up to their legacies. Read more about it, and check out some of the trailers here.
