While reading about news can be both exciting and depressing, sometimes it isn’t all bad to take a step away from what’s current in old gaming and absorb the reflections of other retro gamers.
This article, “Being a Gamer—How Nostalgic Gaming Affects Us Growing Up” is a June 8 pondering by MikeTendo. There are few old schoolers who can’t relate to the days of posters filling bedrooms, gaming superceding everything from food to sex, and the frustration that comes with newer, “better” games.
Honest and thought provoking, MikeTendo’s piece offers a brilliant look as to why so many of the modern systems, with thirty or forty years of technology behind them, continually return to their 8-bit roots. The logic is hard to fault, given the massive number of retro titles that are being resuscitated or “re-imagined” for modern machines. MikeTendo summed up generations worth of gaming angst, anticipation and amusement in this reflection of his video gaming past. Give it a read.
