It is hard to believe that Tetris, one of the most cloned games ever, turned 27 years young on June 6, 2011. Tetris became incredibly popular when it was bundled with Nintendo’s GameBoy, going on to become the best-selling game on the handheld console. Since then, it seems like everyone has tried their hand at the Tetris high score board, and tournaments are abundant on just about every platform.
Of course, gamers are celebrating the birth of Alexey Pajitnov’s original 1984 offering to the gaming community. That isn’t to say that there haven’t been dozens upon dozens of variations, proving the widespread influence of this puzzle game. Tetris Attack and Welltris were two of the widely known games that relied on the Tetris idea, but an adventurous gamer can even pick up Sextris, where naked people in various positions make up the bricks. Regardless of the variation you prefer, Tetris has come a long way since the eighties, and has certainly left its mark
