For a long time, many people in the classic gaming community have had a fleeting interest in the Japanese cult TV show, Game Center CX. Occasionally, a story or clip featured on this show will pop up in feed and searches, sending old schoolers scrambling over to the site to check it out in more detail, only to learn that it is entirely in Japanese. Downer.
The show offers a comedian’s views on retro gaming titles from Japan, which (of course) are global retro gaming titles, given how huge Japanese developers were in the history of the industry. Finally, Game Center CX is getting English subtitles. The first episode aired on Kotaku on Thursday, June 23 with more to come. The show has been dubbed Retro Game Master for English-speaking audiences.
Episode one tackled Ninja Gaiden for the original Nintendo Entertainment System, a classic from 1988. While filming each episode often goes for hours, each show is condensed to a single, sixty minute airing. Look for future episodes every Thursday at 8 p.m. EST.
