February 24th, 2012
SMSPower has made a bit of a name for itself in the retro gaming industry by preserving games that were unreleased, untranslated or simply unheard of. Their goal…a lofty one at that…is to preserve the entire Sega 8-bit library.

Play Super Smash Land demake for free
September 14th, 2011
Dan Fornance is a genius to many old school gamers. Having demade Super Smash Bros. and giving it the feel of a monochromatic Game Boy title, Fornance has given fans of the many Nintendo favorite characters something more to crow about.

It is hard to believe that Tetris, one of the most cloned games ever, turned 27 years young on June 6, 2011. Tetris became incredibly popular when it was bundled with Nintendo’s GameBoy, going on to become the best-selling game on the handheld console.

WonderSwan gets classic Nintendo play
June 29th, 2011
- Tags: Bandai,
Not a member of the stereotypical “Big Three”, Bandai still made plenty of handheld video gaming consoles in the retro era. Still active as late as 2003, Bandai’s WonderSwan never really hit it as big as other, more recognized names in the industry.

Mario and Star Fox among many Nintendo re-releases
June 22nd, 2011
The E3 convention for 2011 might actually go down in history as the first such gaming conference where the retro world overshadowed pending releases. While people seemed moderately excited about the WiiU and other Nintendo goodies, the SupaBoy announcement by Hyperkin met great interest. Also raising eyebrows was the large number of retro re-releases by [...]

What? Why not? Weirder things have happened. Actually, there was no melding of these two completely different but totally cool universes except for in the brains of the gaming humor addicts at Dorkly.

Luke Blackford, the creative gamer
May 27th, 2011
Craft fairs are huge, almost as big (if not bigger) than comicons, developer’s conferences and cosplays. Ceramics, weavings, painting…it’s all good. There are likely very few crafters in the world, however, who will claim that their favorite media would include broken gaming consoles, USB drives or old T-shirts.

May the force be with you
May 14th, 2011
- Tags: Star Wars,
May 4 was Star Wars Day, born out of the notion that May the Fourth sounds ominously like “May the Force”, the beginning of the most oft quoted line from the classic Star Wars flicks (1977). George Lucas is often credited as being the godfather of science fiction and epic film because of the original [...]
