The Xbox is a home video gaming console devise issued by Microsoft with the title being a derivative of DirectX Box. Released in 2001, this game marked a huge step for online gaming play through a home video gaming console. Xbox Line was a service that gave owners online capability for multiplayer games. It had a short run on the market, being replaced after only five years by the Xbox 360, a smoother and much-improved device. The Xbox was Microsofts virgin tour in the console field.
The game that launched with the original Xbox is part of perhaps one of the most exciting titles in recent years, prompting tournaments and entire clubs devoted to it. Microsoft acquired Bungie, and launched its new console with Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 2 would go on to become the Xboxs number one selling game.
The Xbox was popular for several reasons, but one was the fact that gamers did not have to continually purchase memory sticks and cards as storage devices. The Xbox was the first mainstream console system to use a hard disk drive, and it could compress downloaded content into the popular ZIP files to make them more compact and easily retrievable. The Xbox also allowed users to create custom soundtracks for games by ripping audio from their favorite CDs and saving the files to the Xboxs hard drive.
The controller was also an interesting invention to many seasoned gamers. Xboxs controller featured not one, but two, analog sticks. The directional pad was pressure sensitive, and it had two analog triggers, along with an interesting six-button layout.
