The iPod is one of the premier portable media devices of the day. Manufactured by Apple, the iPod has multiple capabilities, most notably the ability to store and replay music, though it has many other functions. The iPod can serve as an external media device and can also play a host of games.
There are many versions of iPods. The first was released in 2001, but the stable has grown and metamorphosed over the years. Some of the iPod products include the iPod Nano, the iPod Touch (which is exceedingly popular), the iPod Shuffle. All have been added to the line since the introduction of the hard drive-based iPod Classic.
The iTunes Store is an applications outlet run by Apple through its popular music download site, iTunes. With the advent of more technologically advanced systems, the iTunes Store has added other types of media, including games, to the store. The original iPod came with the game "Brick" to highlight this feature of the machine. Later launches came with several games from which the user can choose, including Solitaire.
Ironically, and despite its original limited capabilities, the iPod is making attempts to break firmly into the handheld gaming market. With so many capabilities, the iPod's gaming feature used to be considered a bonus. Developers are now pushing it closer to the forefront. More titles are being launched every day by Apple, and outside developers are beginning to consider the iPod's popularity when designing games, as well. |
