Classic Browser Games News |
A browser game is a video game that is played within a window on a person's web browser. It is unique from most other computer games in that it does not require any software to be installed to the user's computer. The browser itself does all of the work, although sometimes an HTML code is sent to the computer.
There are several types of browser games, sometimes known as browser-based games (BBGs), that are differentiated by how much extra client-side scripting is necessary to run the game. JavaScript games, for example, run entirely in the browser without the need for a third party plug in. Plug-in based games use plug-ins, such as Shockwave or Flash Player, and most modern browsers are equipped to automatically find and access the appropriate plugs for games that people attempt to access. Server-side games send HTML codes to the browser for analysis and response, which makes for a nearly real-time experience.
Browser games can be played as single player games, as single player games where the opponent is the computer server, and as multiplayer games. One of the more popular single player games is Quake Live, a first-person shooter. Some multiplayer online browser experiences include FarmVille and the much more recent Evony. |
